Know someone interested in learning about 3D modelling or wanting to refine their already awesome skills? Then, you're in the right place! 3D Digital Surrealist Collage is a beginner-friendly workshop for 12–18-year-olds to learn about 3D modelling, 3D-print their own designs, and how to experiment with surrealist collage.
Students will learn from the artist, creative-technologist, and John Monash Scholar Jess Coldrey. Jess is the first Artist in Residence at Yarra Ranges Tech School, described by The Australian newspaper as one of "Australia's brightest young people".
The students will create a collage on paper from a treasure trove of space, nature, and consumerism-themed cutouts using fun techniques. Then, while being encouraged to reflect on their unique combinations, Jess will guide them to translate their designs into 3D space using digital software. This process will involve a simple introduction to the mechanic and electronic principles of 3D printing, including considerations for modelling, preparing, and printing their projects.
At the end of the workshop, students will have the option to take home their work or lend it to the artist for inclusion in the Yarra Ranges Art-Tech Exhibition on July 10th. In addition, students will receive an invitation to the exhibition opening, with the opportunity to share their projects with family and friends.
Jess is passionate about bringing technology and engineering together with creativity. She has exhibited art projects across Victoria using electronics, coding, and 3D-printed sculpture. Jess has also worked in engineering on projects like the Metro Tunnel, looking for ways to make big projects more creative and sustainable. Through her workshop series at Yarra Ranges Tech School, she hopes to make technology more fun, accessible, and creatively engaging for other young people.
What students will leave with:
