Shaping Fashion Futures

2024

This exhibition explored the future of fashion technologies, speculating about a future world where fabric is rationed and all polyester clothing is recycled in a closed-loop system. Using found materials, textile production and artificial intelligence to imagine an end-to-end chemical recycling system, Coldrey calculated the impact new sustainable fashion models could have on social norms, governance, and environmental impacts such as landfill and water. This project was co-designed with young people from Bendigo, who learnt skills in AI pattern design, draping, sustainable fashion and urban planning.

This project was generously supported by Bendigo Tech School.

The Bendigo Times - Fashioning a sustainable future of clothing

“The main idea around the series was trying to imagine a more sustainable vision for the fashion industry, but using technology, science, and engineering to project what that system could look like on a large scale.”

The Bendigo Times - Local students inspired to design for solutions

“Coldrey is an advocate for diversity in science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths, or STEAM, with much of her work focused on designing solutions in the fashion industry.”
